Talk Description:

This week we will be taking a MSTE Friday Lunch field trip to the William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College! The Planetarium has recently undergone some major upgrades, including installation of the Digistar 4 full-dome system from Evans & Sutherland. On February 25th, MSTE Friday Lunchers will be treated to a special presentation with Dave Leake (of Parkland College) of "Secrets of the Sun" on the full dome.

From the Planetarium's description of the "Secrets of the Sun" presentation:

Take an intimate look at the role the sun plays in our solar system. From the nuclear forces at the heart of the sun to the mass ejections of solar material in surrounding space, you will experience the power of the sun and its impact on the planets and life on Earth. Secrets of the Sun traces the life cycle of the sun itself, from beginning to its eventual death.

Rides are available! We are planning to carpool to the Planetarium at 11:30, hoping to get there at or a little before noon. In your RSVP, you can request a ride or volunteer to be a driver. If you plan to get there on your own, please let us know as well. Thank you!
