Suzanne Lee (Council of Teacher Education, College of Education) will provide an overview of the new teacher certification program, Ed-TPA, that is required this year for all new teachers. The talk will be presented with parents and other citizens in mind rather than education experts. Through this short presentation, I hope that participants will find out how to separate facts from hearsay about the program. I will also provide some links to resources to help those interested to learn more about the process and its impact on teacher training programs.
Learn how to create a simple 3D printer made from an office projector and common objects. Participants will print small plastic objects to take home, and resource links will be provided to anyone interested in making their own 3D printer. We will also discuss how to borrow the 3D printing equipment for use in classrooms.
When I tell people I study teacher stress, they usually respond with a hearty laugh and sarcastic comments to the effect of “Hah! Teachers don’t have stress!” Teacher stress can impact everything from job satisfaction to behavior management. In this lunch presentation I will discuss the science of stress, impact of stress on the educational environment, and initiate dialogue on how the issue of stress can be addressed in teachers.
Barbara Hug will be joining the group to present on Project NEURON (Novel Education for Understanding Research on Neuroscience).
Frank Petkunas will join us via Polycom this week. Frank is the science department head at our partner school, Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. He will be discussing his summer experience in Santa Fe at the Emergent Life Conference, and perhaps the Merit MIST program as well. (Frank and two of his colleagues were part of the Merit MIST program for teachers that we spoke of some last week.)
George Reese will lead a discussion with the group on "Math Workshops for Teachers."
