In this session, Dr. Cheng-Yao Lin and Dr. Jerry Becker will discuss weaknesses they have found in preservice teacher’s computational skills and understanding. To assess students’ computational skills, they administered pretests the first day of class on the basic addition facts, multiplication facts and computational facility on the whole numbers, fractions, decimals and integers. The results they found were astonishing and worse than ever before, and they have found that they get worse each succeeding semester.
This talk will describe the vision and recent activities of the Institute for Sustainability, Energy and Environment (iSEE) for achieving excellence in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and outreach in sustainability, energy and environment. It will discuss ways for the campus community to be involved in activities related to sustainability and present a preview of ongoing efforts and upcoming events.
Eve's talk will provide a general overview of the Naturally Illinois Expo including: history of the Expo, the types of exhibits, composition of the audience (schools, general public), our goals, and improvements that have been made over the years.
Our campus's newest institute is the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment (iSEE), which has three foci: research, education & outreach, and campus sustainability. Mr. McCall will give an overview of iSEE, a look at how well our campus is meeting the targets set out for 2015 in the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP), and a vision of how our campus will set concrete plans in place to meet our long-term sustainability goals, including carbon neutrality by 2050.
