Morgan Johnston will give an overview of the use of renewable energy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From the existing solar and geothermal installations to a planned biomass boiler and wind power purchase agreement, Ms. Johnston will share details about the projects, process, and lessons learned.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment in 2008, pledging to be carbon neutral by 2050. One part of the overall Climate Action Plan is to increase the use of renewable energy generation for our campus power requirements. This presentation will review the progress toward increased use of renewables for our campus, and discuss current efforts underway.
Morgan Johnston, the Associate Director of Sustainability at Facilities and Services, will present the draft recommendations for revisions to the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP). The Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment is seeking public comments and input to the draft recommendations, and the 2015 iCAP is scheduled for Chancellor approval in spring 2015.
