A couple of weeks before preparing his students for the May 2014 Advanced Placement Statistics test, Lucas Allen read about the Johns Hopkins Data Science Specialization on Coursera. Despite never having taken a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) previously, he immediately signed up for the 10 course sequence, devoting all of his summer break to it.
