Talk Description:

Steve Schomberg, former Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement and Institutional Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will discuss the "reciprocity equation" as one of the core values of public engagement. He will approach it from his current experience with the University of Iowa and Iowa State University on a partnership to grow Giant Miscanthus (Miscanthus x giganteus) for the University of Iowa’s Biomass Fuel Project.

Steve resides in Iowa City and oversees his family’s farms in Muscatine County where he specializes in restoring and recreating woodlands and prairies as well as growing Giant Miscanthus for the University of Iowa’s Biomass Fuel Project. His most recent undertaking is an initiative to grow Giant Miscanthus for the mulch, bedding, and erosion control market. Schomberg retired in 2005 from the position of Vice Chancellor for Public Engagement and Institutional Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
