Talk Description:

Due to a last minute emergency, this talk was cancelled and has been resceduled for Friday, October 13th, 2017.

The 2017 total solar eclipse was likely the most viewed in human history, and was a spectacular moment of public engagement and interest in astronomy and science in general. Illinois Astronomers took full advantage of this opportunity, and members of the AstroIllini outreach group will demonstrate hands-on activities. Moreover, eclipses also provide unique laboratories. Brian will discuss two examples of eclipse-based science that have changed the face of physics and astronomy: testing Einstein's General Relativity theory, and discovering planets around other stars.
