Distributed Wall Socket Metering

U of I students Steve Granda & Ariel Moctezuma will share information with the group on their project "The Power of Control: Energy-Efficient Buildings".

From the Speakers: The primary aim of the project is to provide people with an inexpensive way to be smarter about their energy consumption that also works with their schedules and preferences.  By using smart metering and presenting the resulting data in a user-friendly format, our project will guide any user to the most economical energy-consumption plan for their needs.  Using our integrated power-profiling software through a base station or web portal, our project will manage this by simply deciding whether a socket box should be "on" or "off".  This differs simply from turning a switch "on" or "off" in that it handles issues like forgetting to turn a switch off and "Vampire Power Loss".
